Northern light

Article Abstract:

There are a number of reasons why participation rates in university education are higher in Scotland than in England. Education in Scotland is better funded at all levels than in England, and is held in much higher esteem. Furthermore, there are few public schools in Scotland, and overall standards of state education are therefore higher than in England. Higher education is regarded as being open to everyone in Scotland, where there is also a very flexible structure for staying on in education.
