When will the Great War end?

Article Abstract:

There is very little genuine film footage of the experiences of soldiers during the first world war, according to novelist William Boyd. He has attempted to convey the trench experience as the director of 'The Trench,' a small independent film made over six weeks in Nov 1998. He believes that his experience as a writer made him feel prepared for many of the aspects of a director's role. He emphasizes that it was important to him to avoid romanticizing young soldiers, ensuring that courage and sensitivity were contrasted with spite and criminal activity.

The historical novels are serious but have humour. Lindsey Davis was a civil servant and has been runner-up for the Georgette Heyer Historical Novel prize three times.
