Who'll foot the bill for Sir Ron's recipe?

Article Abstract:

Sir Ron Dearing's report into the future of higher education in the UK, which is to be published shortly, will focus on the advantages and disadvantages of a range of possible options, rather than making specific recommendations. However, the report is likely to contain a preferred option for how university funding should be addressed. This will probably be that students should fund part of the cost of their tuition through a loan which will be paid off when they find employment at a later stage.

The baroness sparks a battle in academia

Article Abstract:

Mixed views are being expressed about whether Diana Warwick, head of the UK Committee of Vice Chancellors and Principals, can retain this position while acting as a Labour baroness in the House of Lords. Some observers believe that the two roles are incompatible, while others feel that problems should not arise as long as safeguards are implemented. There are concerns that she may be presented with conflicts of interest and that she will not have enough time to devote to both positions.

Never mind the kids, watch out for the parents

Article Abstract:

It has become increasingly common in the UK for parents to bully teachers, either psychologically or physically. Headteachers are now taking steps to draw attention to this problem, emphasising that parents are now turning to aggression, rather than using the standard complaints procedure. The National Association of Head Teachers is now receiving many phone calls from head teachers reporting incidents of violence or abusiveness towards staff.
