Why Prince went tabloid on GM food

Article Abstract:

Charles, Prince of Wales, has spoken out over his concerns relating to genetically modified foods, and has written an article in the Daily Mail newspaper. This article has appeared at a time when the government is seeking to convince the public that there is no need to be concerned about such foods and crops. The newspaper in question is part of the popular press and is seen as anti-intellectual and reactionary. Prince Charles was asked to write the article and was intitially not keen to do so, but was later persuaded. He wished to communicate to a wide audience in a timely fashion.

Historic town set for battle of Tesco

Article Abstract:

Small retailers in the historic market town of Beverley, England, are expressing strong opposition to plans by Tesco to open a supermarket there. They believe that creating a supermarket on the edge of the town could draw shoppers away from the town centre, thus having a negative impact on their business. Town planners have rejected Tesco's proposal, but the retailers expect that an appeal will be made. Developments in Beverley mirror those in many other market towns across the UK.
