Why turn away these perfect citizens?

Article Abstract:

UK prime minister John Major is expected to agree that the 2 million Hong Kong Chinese who hold Special Administrative Region (SAR) passports will be granted the right to visit the UK without a visa, placing them on the same basis as the 3.5 million people entitled to British National Overseas passports. However, none of these Hong Kong Chinese will be permitted to live or work in the UK. Taking this approach is denying the UK of valuable resources, as most of the Hong Kong Chinese concerned are highly skilled and could make great contributions to the UK's economy.

The law is an ass and its victim is a bitch

Article Abstract:

The 1991 Dangerous Dogs Act was passed very rapidly in response to a number of highly publicised attacks by dogs on humans. It was intended to outlaw dangerous breeds, but has been ineffective right from the beginning. It does not cover any breed with a pedigree, and uses very vague definitions. This has led to lengthy legal battles, with a considerable number of dogs now being the subject of destruction orders which have not been carried out.

Watch out! There's a victim about

Article Abstract:

It has become increasingly common in the UK for people to try to sue after having suffered what they perceive to be injury or distress. People are no longer prepared to accept what happens to them, and now attempt to find an individual or an organisation to take the blame. This has become even more common since solicitors have been permitted to offer a No Win No Fee service.
