Wild about Harry
Article Abstract:
Greek Cypriot businessman Haris Sophoclides, known as Harry, has become a leading donor to the UK Labour party. His involvement with the Labour party comes mainly through his role as leader of the Greek Cypriot community in the UK. The Greek Cypriot Brotherhood, of which Sophoclides is Pres, made a substantial donation to the Labour party in 1998, and plays an active role in arranging for MPs to undertake research trips to Cyprus. Receiving large donations from a few very wealthy individuals may prove damaging for the Labour party, which has placed strong emphasis on transparency in political party funding.

Straw: I won't back down on 'gypsies.'
Article Abstract:
British Home Secretary, Jack Straw, has been criticized for comments on criminals that he claims may pose as gypsies. Straw argues that he was right to make such claims, and that they are not racist. He argues that his critics should talk to people in areas such as Swindon, England, where gypsies have created problems. Meanwhile, shoppers in Swindon express little interest in the topic of gypsies. A group of women from a site south of Swindon, call themselves Romany gypsies and argue that they are law abiding.
