Do we need Bank Holidays?

Article Abstract:

It could be argued that bank holidays serve no useful purpose. People who have to work on those days, such as those in the emergency services, find themselves even busier than usual, while those who are not working often spend the time stuck in traffic jams. People now have a great deal of free time in any case, so bank holidays no longer seem special and they are not used to their best advantage.
