Would Labour find the Treasury powerless?

Article Abstract:

Some observers have for some time claimed that the UK Treasury is responsible for any mistakes which have been made in economic policy. Most recently, this debate has taken on a new aspect as senior figures in the Labour party have clashed about the place of the Treasury under a future Labour government. The Treasury is certainly still the most powerful of all UK government ministries, but it is gradually becoming less important. It can still make serious errors, but generally its powers are diminishing.

Article Abstract:

It has become less common for businesses to be concerned about environmental issues. However, developing strong environmental policies is likely to give companies a competitive advantage over their rivals in the future. Companies should also realize that there are significant returns to be made from environment-related investment. There are many examples of companies which have succeeded in using environmental policies to improve their overall performance.
