You can't beat a good children's show

Article Abstract:

Luke Jeans' Channel 4 programme 'Beat That,' featuring handicapped children in natural settings, won an Emmy award in Nov 1992. Mr Jeans, 42, is an independent producer/director of the Tiny Epic editing company. Channel 4 ceased its quest for original children's programming in 1987, but introduced more programmes for special needs. Mr Jeans is discussing children's programming with US channel PBS and has a fun sports programme including disabled athletes on Channel 4 in 1993.

Article Abstract:

Postgraduate journalism courses have started to become dominated by well-off students supported by their families since government funding for such courses was drastically cut. Some observers now fear that journalism could become dominated by middle-class graduates. Problems have also been caused by misguided recruitment policies among newspapers and very poor pay for new journalists. These difficulties are particularly affecting the standard of local newspapers.

Article Abstract:

The BSkyB satellite television subscription centre in Livingston, Scotland services 1.2 million subscriptions to film channels. Special interest channels are predicted to augment profits. Satellite dish sales are expected to increase to 25% of homes by 1993 because of the sole coverage of live football.The converted factory housing 400 staff is the only centre in the world where the mechanics of subscription satelllite television can be studied.
