Airport pollution prevention takes off

Article Abstract:

De-icing chemicals used on aircraft are known to cause toxicity in water, and evidence has been mounting that some of these chemicals make their way into bodies of water near airports. Since January 1999, Delta Airlines has been using an alternative de-icing system at General Mitchell international Airport in Milwaukee. The system, developed by Premier Engineering, has brought about a 70% reduction type1 glycol de-icing fluid. Delta will soon make a final decision on the use of the system for all its aircraft.
