Calatrava skyscraper to dominate Chicago skyline

Article Abstract:

Sculptor, engineer and architect Santiago Calatrava has come to Chicago to construct United States tallest building, the 2,000 feet Fordham Spire, for Fordham Company. The construction of the slender, twisting design building will be started in May 2006 and will have a 20-story luxury hotel along with 200 to 250 condominiums.

Art museum addition features 'flying carpet' canopy

The architectural and construction design of the grid shading system, covering the contemporary art gallery, at the Art Institute of Chicago, are detailed. Dubbed as the flying carpet by its architect, Renzo Piano, Genoa, Italy, it is a $259 million project.
