Article Abstract:

A group of researchers led by Paul Ginsparg and Steven Harnad of the Univ of Southampton are trying to prove that they can publishing scientific reports over the Internet more efficiently and cheaper than science journals. They have already had success with Los Alamos e-print archives for physicists.

Looking for the evidence in medicine

Article Abstract:

The Cochrane Collaboration is an international team effort conducted by 10 research centers that is collecting data on the best medical treatments, reviewing them, and publishing the data electronically. The project was initiated in 1994 and will be updated regularly.

APS starts electronic preprint service

Article Abstract:

The APS launched an online preprint server to archive un-peer-reviewed preprints and accept article submissions for its journals. The prototype program will provide direction for the future of APS electronic publishing.
