ITER review team takes bullish stance

A panel of fusion researchers headed by John Sheffield is reviewing the $10-billion ITER for the US Dept of Energy, prompted by a controversy of theoretical models of the reactor's design and a tightening science budget. US participation is considered crucial though it may be a minor investor.

France, Germany drop out of ITER race

Article Abstract:

France and Germany decided not to become sites for the ITER, increasing the odds of having Japan become the site of the fusion facility. The host country will have to pay for the majority, unofficially 70%, of the costs of the facility, which are likely to total more than $8 billion.
