Leukemia studies continue to draw a blank

Article Abstract:

Increases in the rate of leukemia since the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster have not been found among the general population in the most heavily contaminated republics closest to the reactor. An expected 6% increase in childhood leukemia may not have been detected due to poor-quality cancer data.

Poor dose data hamper study of cleanup workers

Article Abstract:

Unreliable data is hindering epidemiological study of the incidence of leukemia and thyroid cancer among the 800,000 people who participated in the Chernobyl clean-up operations. Information about where workers worked and how long was recorded, but much of it cannot be validated.
