Report evaluates automated construction

Article Abstract:

The Scrubgrass power project served as a test site for evaluating automated construction. The field test was conducted by the Civil Engineering Research Foundation and Bechtel Corp. The testing used Bechtel's Construction Computer Aided Engineering (CCAE) software. CCAE combines planningand scheduling with three-dimensional models to simulate construction work. It is applicable in complex projects where two-dimensional drawings may pose problems. The use of CCAE in the Scrubgrass project produced valuable lessons in worker training, software compatibility and implementation that Bechtel would incorporate in future projects.

Computers, creativity and the engineer

Article Abstract:

Computer technology can provide engineers with any design but a perfect structure can be achieved only by the engineer. Engineers using computer-aided drafting and designing should not lose their creativity. They have to retain their skills despite the advances made in design and construction.
