Oregon governor backs dam removal
Article Abstract:
Oregon State Gov John Kitzhaber has pledged to raise $10 million in private, state and federal financing to help remove the Little Sandy and Marmot Dams in the Sandy River basin. Removal of both dams will cost a total of $22 million. The remaining amount will be provided by Portland General Electric Co, which owns the facilities, and the city of Portland, OR. The company and the city of Portland will generate most of the required capital through the refinancing and restructuring of hydroelectric contracts.
