Peroxyacyl nitrates at Southern California mountain forest locations

Article Abstract:

The ambient levels of peroxyacyl nitrates at a southern California mountain forest site are measured and studied. Electron capture gas chromotography is employed to obtain the concentration level of the different peroxyacyl nitrates, namely: peroxyacetyl nitrate (PAN), peroxypropionyl nitrate (PPN) and peroxymethacryloyl nitrate (MPAN). Results show that MPAN reacts faster with the ozone and other hydroxyl radicals as compared to PAN and PPN.

Atmospheric oxidation of selected terpenes and related carbonyls: gas-phase carbonyl products

Article Abstract:

A research study analyzed the atmospheric oxidation of terpene and terpene carbonyl products to help explain terpene oxidation mechanisms and overall terpene reactivity. The study involved the oxidation of delta-limonene, alpha-pinene and beta-pinene, using sunlight irradiation. Also analyzed was the irradiation of carbonyl products derived from beta-pinene and delta-limonene.

Atmospheric chemistry of 1-octene, 1-decene, and cyclohexene: gas-phase carbonyl and peroxyacyl nitrate products

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the atmospheric chemistry of the olefins 1-octene, 1-decene and cyclohexene. The oxidation of the olefins in the presence of nitric oxide under direct sunlight was analyzed with emphasis on carbonyl products and on the formation of peroxyacyl nitrates. Formation of peroxyacyl nitrates, including n-C6H13C(O)OONO2, was subsequently documented.
