Formation of polybrominated dibenzuforans during extrusion of high-impact polystyrene/decabromodiphenyl ether/antimony (III) oxide
Article Abstract:
An examination of the thermal behavior of polybrominated dibenzofurans (PBDFs) formation by the extrusion of high-impact polystyrene is discussed. Experiments involved the application of high-performance liquid chromatography in the analysis of PBDF formation, a computer simulation program for the modeling of temperature development in a standard extruder and measurements of the parameters of polysterene chains thermal stability by gel permeation chromatography. It was found that thermal stability of the polymer matrix determine the optimum temperature for PBDF formation.

Profile and pattern of monochloro- through octachlorodibenzodioxins and -dibenzofurans in chimney deposits from wood burning
Article Abstract:
Isomers and homologues of chlorodibenzodioxins (ClxDD) and chlorodibenzofurans (ClxDF) that were found in chimney deposits from wood burning were analyzed. ClxDF homologue amounts were as much as 10 times larger than ClxDD homologue amounts. Additionally, lower chlorinated homologues, which each contained up to three chlorine atoms, constituted a larger percentage in the deposits than higher chlorinated homologues, which each contained four to eight chlorine atoms. Isomer patterns and profiles for ClxDF and ClxDD were also measured.
