Resuspension of particulate chemical species at forested sites

Article Abstract:

Estimation by aerodynamic surrogate surfaces anf throughfall of the resuspension rates of particulate chemical species from forests are discussed. Vertical variation in resuspension was estimated by placing surrogate surfaces at different heights. The resuspension rate of the whole canopy was estimated by throughfall measurements. It was found that the resuspension rates within the crown were only slightly less than those above the canopy in contrast with the mean speed wind.

Determination of size-dependent dry particle deposition velocities with multiple intrinsic elemental tracers

Article Abstract:

Dry deposition flux and aerosol size distribution were measured in Lake Michingan during summer in 1994. A constrained chemical mass balance deposition model proved useful in obtaining physically significant deposition velocities (Vd). Minimum Vd values for particles with physical diameters between 0.09 and 0.53 micronm averaged 0.006 to 0.005 cm s-1 were obtained under stable conditions and mean wind speed of 4.0 m s-1.

Soiling patterns on a tall limestone building: changes over 60 years

Article Abstract:

Researchers studied the soiling pattern of the Cathedral of Learning building at the University of Pittsburgh. The soiling pattern of the limestone building suggests that rain washes off soiled areas spanning several decades unlike soiling which occurs rapidly.
