Aerobic exercise and lumbar spine bone mineral density in postmenopausal women: a meta-analysis

Article Abstract:

Aerobic exercise may prevent the loss of bone density in the lumbar spine in postmenopausal women. Researchers used meta-analysis to determine the effect of exercise based on 10 clinical trials of 330 postmenopausal women. Significant differences in lumbar spinal bone density were seen between the women who exercised and those who did not. The change was primarily caused by a loss of bone density in the non-exercising group.

Thioridazine dose-related effects on biomechanical force platform measures of sway in young and old men

Article Abstract:

Thioridazine may affect balance in elderly patients, which could increase their risk of falling. Researchers evaluated the effect of different doses of the drug in seven young and five old men. A biomechanics force platform was used to measure sway after the men took a placebo, 25, 50 or 75 mg of thioridazine. The drug increased sway in a dose-dependent manner and older men swayed more than younger men.
