Age and health bias in practicing clinical psychologists

Article Abstract:

Clinical psychologists may hold an indirect bias against aged patients because they typically suffer from poor health as well. A survey of psychologists found that while they did not differ in their modes of treatment towards young or old adults, they did show a bias against persons suffering from illnesses associated with aging. Since these illnesses accompanied the feelings of depression suffered by an older patient, they may not receive adequate treatment from professionals.

In addition, burdensome government regulation makes it even harder to find competent help. Others simply cannot pay the helpers.
