Anticoagulant use for atrial fibrillation in the elderly
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to determine the influence of advanced age on anticoagulant use in subjects with atrial fibrillation and to explore the extent to which risk factors for stroke and contradictions to anticoagulant therapy predict subsequent use. Despite consensus guidelines to treat all atrial fibrillation patients aged 75 and older with anticoagulants, advancing age was found to be a deterrent to warfarin use.

Internal low energy atrial cardioversion: efficacy and safety in older patients with chronic atrial fibrillation
Article Abstract:
This article evaluates the safety and effectiveness of internal low-energy atrial cardioversion, a new technique that delivers intracardiac shocks using transvenous catheters, for patients with chronic atrial fibrillation. Findings indicate that this is a safe and effective procedure for restoring normal sinus rhythm in young and old patients with atrial fibrillation.

Incidence of new thromboembolic stroke in persons 62 years and older with chronic atrial fibrillation treated with warfarin versus aspirin
Article Abstract:
Researchers conducted a study to investigate the incidence of new thromboembolic (TE) stroke among older people suffering from chronic atrial fibrillation and treated with oral warfarin versus aspirin. Their study found that persons who took warfarin had a less chance of developing a new TE stroke than those taking aspirin.
