Assessment of insulin sensitivity in older adults using the hyperglycemic clamp technique
Article Abstract:
The hyperglycemic clamp technique can be used to assess both insulin sensitivity and insulin release. In the past, this technique was used only to assess insulin release whereas the euglycemic clamp technique was used to assess insulin sensitivity. A study of both techniques in 35 NIDDM patients and 26 healthy volunteers found that glucose clearance values were similar regardless of which technique was used.

Getting meaningful informed consent from older adults: a structured literature review of empirical research
Article Abstract:
A review of 99 articles on informed consent found that many older patients participating in medical research do not understand the informed consent process. This was also true of people with little education. Older patients are also less likely to participate in clinical trials. Strategies to increase understanding and acceptance of informed consent include simplified forms, storybooks and videos.

The effects of aerobic exercise and T'ai Chi on blood pressure in older people: results of a randomized trial
Article Abstract:
Researchers conducted a study to compare the effects of a 12-week moderate-intensity aerobic exercise program and T'ai chi program of light activity on blood pressure. They concluded that both programs may have similar effects on blood pressure. Consequently, these forms of activity may prove helpful in reducing blood pressure in older persons.
