Breast cancer screening in older women: the consumer perspective
Article Abstract:
The cost entailed in breast cancer screening is one of the major obstacles for majority of women to make use of screening mammography. Fear of cancer as well as failure of physicians to recommend mammography has exacerbated the problem of increasing breast cancer incidence and mortality rates. Thus, a comprehensive public policy on screening modalities which could address such problems and improve its accessibility to women clients should be promoted. Health professionals should also encourage active participation in the utilization of mammography for early detection of breast cancer.

Older women's participation in breast screening
Article Abstract:
Literature on breast cancer revealed the low participation of women aged 65 and older in the use of screening modalities despite the increased incidence of cancer with advancing age. Financial, cognitive, attitudinal and even physical factors were identified as barriers contributing to such phenomena. As such, several interventions and recommendations to improve the utilization of screening and promote the health of aged women were presented.
