Commentary on "Revisiting the role of fat mass in the life extension induced by caloric restriction."
Article Abstract:
B.N. Berg and associates presented a hypothesis in the 1960s that showed that aging processes in rats are retarded by reducing body fat in rats. Their conclusion was in good agreement with the prevailing notion that premature death in humans is caused by excess fat mass. Other researchers such as N. Barzilai, E. Stuchlikova, D.E. Harrison and their colleagues proposed contradictory arguments on the effect of fat mass on aging based on the inappropriateness of sample volume and methods and the need for reassessment using modern technology.

Dietary restriction retards onset but not progress of leukemia in male F344 rats
Article Abstract:
The effect of dietary restriction on the spontaneous occurrence and the progression of leukemia in male F344 rats is assessed. Preliminary statistical analyses showed that dietary restriction to approximately 60% of ad libitum intake from six weeks of age delayed spontaneous death by delaying the occurrence of leukemia. The time between occurrence and death or progression of the cancer was not affected by dietary restriction.

Anti-tumor action of dietary restriction is lesion-dependent in male Fischer 344 rats
Article Abstract:
Investigation of automatic oncogenesis in male Fischer 344 rats indicates the ability of dietary restriction (DR) to attenuate the onset rates and development of pituitary adenoma and pheochromocytoma in a lesion-dependent manner. The levels of certain hormones and humoral agents are increased by DR site-specifically, which does not influence the progression rate of leukemia.
