What is the quality of the reporting of research ethics in publications of nursing home research?
Article Abstract:
Reports of research ethics in published nursing home research may be inconsistent unless specifically requested by the publisher's instructions to authors. An analysis of 45 research publications on nursing home residents showed a common lack of basic ethical standards, particularly missing committee or board reviews. In journals with explicit author instructions and the certainty of editing or peer review, however, much more care was taken with including detailed research ethics.

Dementia and the goals of care
Article Abstract:
Geriatricians can play an important role in developing goals of care for patients with dementia and making sure rational care plans are created. Goals of care include preventing functional decline, slowing the progression of dementia, improving cognitive function and reducing caregiver burden. These goals should be developed in consultation with the patient, if possible, and the family. The goals may change over time as the disease progresses.
