Recognizing abuse and neglect in people with severe cognitive and/or communication impairments
Article Abstract:
Cases of physical or sexual abuse of elders with developmental disabilities have not been documented as extensively as cases involving children. A lack of awareness about services available to abused elders may explain the lack of reports of alleged abuse. Service providers have to ascertain the authenticity of reported cases. Interpreters or care providers may be perpetrators.
