Developing and testing training materials on elder abuse and neglect for nurse aides
Article Abstract:
Nursing staff in Hawaii have provided invaluable information about their jobs to educationalists preparing training programmes on elder abuse and neglect for paraprofessional nursing home staff. The nurses stressed how difficult their jobs can be in some conditions. Inadequate management, too few staff, abuse and being taken for granted are some of the difficulties experienced on a regular basis, according to the nurses. The nursing training programme, which includes a video and booklet, has incorporated measures to counter abuse and has been received well during tests.

Lesbian, gay male, bisexual and transgendered elders: elder abuse and neglect issues
Article Abstract:
A lack of knowledge and predisposition about issues of sexual orientation and gender has contributed to the lack of attention to matters concerning aged gays and lesbians. Society's definition of homosexuality precludes analysis of issues in aged gays and lesbians other than sexuality such as social, psychological, and legal factors. The extremely prohibitive environment in which elder gays and lesbians live in, has made it harder to uncover cases of elder abuse in such communities.
