Detecting balance deficits in frequent fallers using clinical and quantitative evaluation tools
Article Abstract:
Accelerometry is an inexpensive method of identifying elderly people who are susceptible to falling. Researchers gave various tests to 16 elderly subjects, 8 of whom had a history of idiopathic falls. One gram accelerometers placed on the head and hips were able to identify the subjects with a history of falling. The Romberg test was also successful, but the functional reach test and motor coordination tests were less so.

Pharmacology of antipsychosis in the elderly: A focus on atypicals
Article Abstract:
Atypical antipsychotics are safer than conventional antipsychotics when considering adverse events, but they do have limitations and risks. The elderly patient population is especially vulnerable to side effects, and great care and much consideration should go into individualizing the best treatments for each of these patients.

Alfacalcidol reduces the number of fallers in a community-dwelling elderly population with a minimum calcium intake of more than 500 mg daily
Article Abstract:
The effect of alfacalcidol (1alpha(OH)D3) on fall risk in community-dwelling elderly men and women is examined. Considering a minimal calcium intake alfacalcidol treatment safely reduces number of fallers in the elderly community-dwelling population.
