Development of a test battery to identify older drivers at risk for self-reported adverse driving events

Article Abstract:

Visual and functional testing may identify older drivers at risk for automobile accidents and other adverse driving events. Researchers tested 125 drivers averaging 81 years of age. A higher rate of car accidents, moving violations, and police traffic stops were reported by drivers with lower visual acuity or visual attention, or a reduced ability to turn the head. Medical office examinations to test for these deficits may identify older drivers at higher risk for driving-related problems.

Drugs and falls in older people: a systematic review and meta-analysis: I. psychotropic drugs

Article Abstract:

Psychotropic drugs may be linked to the risk of accidental falling in old age. Researchers compared the conclusions of 40 observational studies on falls and sedative/antidepressant/neuroleptic drug use in old age. The small yet consistent association between psychotropic medications and falling is noteworthy and indicates the need for more scientific research on this topic.
