Dimensionality of everyday problem solving in older adults
Article Abstract:
Older adults' problem-solving strategies were evaluated using three instruments. These instruments included the Practical Problems Test, the Everyday Problem Solving Inventory and the Everyday Problems Test. Results showed that everyday problem solving is a relatively unitary construct. Regardless of the instrument used, subjects showed consistent performance. However, differences were observed with regard to the instrument used and the chronological age of subjects.

Everyday activity patterns and sensory functioning in old age
Article Abstract:
A study of 516 older adults has examined the links between their ability to see and hear and their ability to carry out basic everyday tasks and discretionary leisure and social tasks. Both vision and hearing abilities have a major effect on the ability of older people to function in everyday activities, and this is especially true for vision. The impact of sensory aging on other domains may not be simple, since their effect on everyday life is indirect.

Everyday problem solving in older adults: observational assessment and cognitive correlates
Article Abstract:
Evaluation of the effectiveness of Observed Tasks of Daily Living (OTDL) in behavioral analysis of older adults in three aspects of daily life showed that the OTDL represented the three factors in everyday problem solving reliably, and revealed convergent validity with associated scales of a paper-and-pencil task. Cognitive abilities mediated the effect of age on older adults' performance on the OTDL.
