Update on electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in older adults
Article Abstract:
Use of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for major depression is going up in older adults of the US. If the depression does not respond to medications or if there are side effects or if the depression is accompanied by life-threatening complications its use is more likely. It is used when a rapid definitive response is necessary. An update on the indications for ECT is presented with information on method, common complications, and efficacy.
