Effect of age on event-based and time-based prospective memory

Article Abstract:

Prospective memory relates to retrieval of intentions from long-term memory needed to carry out plans like taking medicine or meeting people. Older adults tend not to perform well on time-based prospective memory tasks, and this is especially true when memory load is also involved. This indicates that the difference cannot just be attributed to poor time monitoring. Age differences are also apparent with event-based prospective memory and event-based responding appears to need a major input in terms of attention.

Age-related differences in absolute but not relative metamemory accuracy

Article Abstract:

A set of three experiments was conducted to find out whether metacognitive accuracy was related to age. Results showed that absolute global and item-by-item memory does not rely on age and even indicate that older adults are capable of greater learning monitoring and more accurate prediction of memory. Furthermore, no age-related factor was observed to be pertinent to differences in judgments of learning.

Does aging influence people's metacomprehension? Effects of processing ease on judgments of text learning

Article Abstract:

The possible influences of aging on judgments of text learning were estimated through the evaluation of the ease-of-processing (EOP) hypothesis. In the use of processing ease for simple two-sentence pairs, an age-related difference was evident, while processing ease had a major impact on both age groups judgments when longer paragraphs were read.
