Article Abstract:

The 21st century presents a number of challenges and opportunities of increased longevity and frailty for very old adults, and thus the provision of functional health and high quality of late life are acute concerns for gerontologists and health researchers. A model that outlines how older adults of the future can improve their quality of life is presented.

Signposts of aging: The transitions to later life of a sample of older gay men

Article Abstract:

The aging and later life experiences of older gay men in Britain are investigated with a view to broaden the gerontological understanding of aging for this invisible group. The argument that traditionally recognized perceptions of aging and transitions from middle to old age are not necessarily reliable indicators of gay men's experiences is presented.

The potential of gerontological inquiry is explored to reconstruct aging in a positive mode. The work being done with an approach called Appreciative Inquiry is highlighted to emphasize positive practices.
