Examining the gray zones in guardianship and involuntary protective services laws
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the gray zones in guardianship and involuntary protective services laws. To compare the application of guardianship and adult protective services interventions in the lives of vulnerable adults, multidisciplinary focus groups were convened in the urban, rural and suburban areas of Ohio. Results indicate a general agreement in understanding the issues of incompetence and incapacity. However, the application of the concepts in given cases may be affected professional differences in value orientation.

Scandalous care: interpreting public enquiry reports of scandals in residential care
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to analyze a study written for the Wagner Committee on scandals in residential care. The review focused on ten enquiry reports and described events grouped as institutionalized practices, physical cruelty, indifference and neglect, humiliation, and depressing life-style. Abuse was correlated on the nature of direct care and acts of intimate caring of others. Ways of minimizing the potential for abuse in residential care were then given.
