Models of intervention for "elder abuse and neglect": a Canadian perspective on ageism, participation, and empowerment
Article Abstract:
Ageism is the mistreatment of older people in diverse forms and varying degrees. It has pervaded society and is accepted by the public at large. Six models of intervention to address the problem of elder mistreatment have been identified as the psychopathological model, the hierarchical model, the systems model, the child welfare model, the participatory model and the quasi-legal model. Of all the models, the participatory model is seen as having the most potential to overcome ageism and promote the well-being of older people.

Financial exploitation of elders: analysis of risk factors based on county adult protective services data
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the risk factors related to the financial exploitation of and mismanagement by elders. Based on the data from Erie County, NY, Protective Services for Older Adults, it was found that those who were financially exploited tended to be cognitively impaired and were in their late seventies, on the average. Findings indicate that a large proportion of perpetrators were not related to the victims although some are their adult children.
