Functioning, well-being, and health perception in late middle-aged and older people: comparing the effects of depressive symptoms and chronic medical conditions
Article Abstract:
Depression in middle-aged and older people can have a more significant impact than many medical conditions. Researchers evaluated behavioral functioning, quality of life and other measures of physical and psychological health in 5,279 noninstitutionalized people. People with depression scored worse in most measures even if they had a concurrent medical condition. For many measures, the impact of depression was greater than most medical conditions.

Neuroleptic-induced movement disorders: Deconstructing extrapyramidal symptoms
Article Abstract:
The use of neuroleptics remains vital to the management of an expanding number of psychiatric conditions but has the potential to cause disabling and persistent movement disorders. However, an examination of the differences in the temporal course and risk factors suggests that splitting these movements into the categories of limited reactions adds precision to the understanding of these disparate disorders.

Can money buy happiness? Depressive symptoms in an affluent older population
Article Abstract:
Depressive symptoms do not appear to be less prevalent in affluent communities when other factors are considered. Researchers screened 1,948 members of an affluent community for depression. The prevalence of depression was lower than in many other population studies, but after adjusting for health conditions, physical disability and social support, the link between depression and income was less clear.
