Has gold lost its glitter?

Article Abstract:

Gold has been traditionally viewed as an investment impervious to inflation and currency fluctuations. However, prices of the commodity have plummeted from $850 per ounce in 1980 to only $298 in June 1998. Experts advise individuals to limit their gold investments and look to other instruments such as government bonds and Treasury bonds.
