Hyperadrenocorticism, attenuated inflammation, and the life-prolonging action of food restriction in mice

Article Abstract:

Experimental studies of the influence of food restriction (FR), which enhances longevity, in two-month-old BALB/c mice indicate an enhancement of plasma corticosterone levels and a decrease in inflammation responses in FR mice. This suggests that glucocorticoids participate in the defense mechanism against overinflammation and enables extension of life span through postponement of inflammation-induced pathology.
