Interrelationships among biological markers of aging, health, activity, acculturation, and cognitive performance in late adulthood
Article Abstract:
It is possible to measure the construct of biological age and to use it as a latent variable in cognitive aging research, according to research in which a structural equation model of predictors of age differences in cognitive performance in late adulthood was developed. It was shown that biological age and chronological age are extremely correlated, with biological age explaining a large proportion of the variance shared between chronological age and cognitive performance. Some variables used as biomarkers explained individual differences in measures of crystallized intelligence and perceptual speed.

A latent growth curve analysis of late-life sensory and cognitive function over 8 years: evidence for specific and common factors underlying change
Article Abstract:
Correlations among rates of change in sensory and cognitive functioning in adulthood were evaluated. The results support a theory incorporating a major role for unique factors in addition to common factors underlying sensory and cognitive change in old age.

Demographic, health, cognitive, and sensory variables as predictors of mortality in very old adults
Article Abstract:
Research describing the association between performance in cognitive tests and subsequent mortality in persons aged 70 and older is presented. The study concludes that poor cognitive performance has a strong correlation with mortality.
