Adult age differences in task switching

Article Abstract:

Age differences in task-set switching speed were examined adults aged 20-80 years, based on task-set homogeneous and task-set heterogeneous blocks. Age-linked increments in costs were much greater for general than for specific switch costs, indicating the negative affect of advancing age in working memory.

Age-based structural dynamics between perceptual speed and knowledge in the Berlin aging study: direct evidence for ability dedifferentation in old age

Article Abstract:

According to 2-component theories of intelligence, negative cross-sectional age gradients in mechanic and pragmatic cognitive components reflect the increasing constraining of the former in the expression and integrity of the later component. Results indicated that changes in knowledge are dominated by perceptual speed and offered strong support for the notion of "mechanization" of pragmatic abilities in old and very old age.

Studying individual aging in an inter-individual context: Typical paths of age-related, dementia-related and mortality-related cognitive development in old age

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to explore typical paths of cognitive development associated with aging terminal decline, and dementia. Although cognitive changes generally co varies, the study indicated that subgroups of individuals develop along different paths characterized by selective changes in subsets of cognitive functions.
