Investigating British general practitioners' knowledge and experience of elder abuse: report of a research study in an inner London borough
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the knowledge of elder abuse by British general medical practitioners (GPs) in an inner London, England-borough and their experiences of the problem. Respondents included 73 GPs which shows a 68% response rate. They were asked about 20 instances of elder abuse and neglect. Results demonstrate that 84% had an elderly patient in each situation. They also suggest that although GP's are knowledgeable of elder abuse, they do not perceive them as such or completely miss these abusive situations.
