Introducing a framework for defining financial abuse of the elderly
Article Abstract:
A conceptual framework that includes the nature of the relationship between the older person and the abuser is used to identify financial abuse of the elderly. Illness, physical and sensory impairments and emotional susceptibility increase the abuse. Identifying the nature and the purpose of the relationship between the abused and the abuser is important in determining financial abuse. Abuse is suspected if the older person's primary needs are left unfulfilled. Financial abuse is also indicated if fraud and coercion is used in relation to different situations concerning the old.

Older people's understandings of verbal abuse
Article Abstract:
Research shows that elderly people often associate the term abuse with verbal abuse. Many different interpretations of abuse have been recorded in a survey when eight elderly people were questioned on the subject. The individual definition of abuse is complex and dissimilar to formal definition in expert reports. Further surveys should look at the interpretation of abuse from the viewpoint of the victim and perpetrator.
