Taming the TV

Article Abstract:

Asian governments and citizens are justifiably worried about the flood of Western television programming entering people's homes, but technological changes are making it possible to challenge it with good local programming. Many governments, notably India's, initially liked the power and advantages of tv, but the spread of uncontrolled cable and satellite tv has left them uncertain and ineffective on the issue. Ultimately local programs will restore the greatest benefits of tv, promoting education and cultural solidarity.

Meaning of grandparenthood: Do concerns about time and mortality matter?

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to test whether older people facing the finitude of life would be motivated by death anxiety and limited time perspective to seek meaning in one type of close relationship, such as grandparenthood. Results of the study revealed that grand parents who perceived a greater lack of future time derived higher levels of meaning from grandparenthood.
