Age differences in mental rotation task performance: the influence of speed/accuracy tradeoffs
Article Abstract:
The association between age and speed/accuracy tradeoffs in mental rotation task performance was assessed in 38 young adults and 36 older subjects. Young subjects had decreases in accuracy as reaction time decreased while older adults had stable levels of accuracy with decreasing reaction times. It is suggested that the young adults were more willing to sacrifice accuracy for speed improvement in performing themental rotation tasks. Results also showed that age differences in reaction times can not account for age differences in mental rotation performance.

The role of social comparisons processes in the psychological adaptation of elderly adults
Article Abstract:
Two studies were done to assess the role of social comparisons processes in the psychological adaptation of elderly adults. Results showed that those in worse physical health tend to compare their status more with other people. Those who compare their state with other people in a more positive way tend to have better mental health outcomes even for women in poor health. Thus, psychological well-being is positively affected by social comparisons in the elderly.
