Sex and age cohort differences in patterns of socioemotional functioning in older adults and their links to physical resilience
Article Abstract:
A cluster analysis was applied to 11 measures of socioemotional functioning among two age groups - (65-73 years and 74-86 years), which revealed that older men more frequently manifested patterns of adaptation characterized by inhibited emotion but, younger men were less likely to be represented in patterns characterized by stress-buffering friend support networks. The patterns also showed predictable links to a measure of physical resiliency, which was predicted by participant sex, and both sex and age interacted with cluster membership in predicting resiliency.

Emotion experience and expression across the adult life span: Insights from a multimodal assessment study
Article Abstract:
A multimodal assessment study reveals that according to the differential emotions theory (DET), the emotion system represents a set of adaptive propensities that facilitate responses to recurrent adaptive challenges or opportunities that promote survival and inclusive fitness. Some of the components of the emotion system contribute to change as well as constancy across the life course.
