Spoken word recognition in individuals with dementia of the Alzheimer's type: changes in talker normalization and lexical discrimination
Article Abstract:
The effects of dementia of the Alzheimer's type (DAT) on the initial stages of speech perception, specifically on lexical discrimination and talker normalization were analyzed. Although no significant changes in either their talker normalization or lexical discrimination were noted in individuals who were mildly impaired with DAT, those whose DAT was more advanced, or were mildly demented, were found to show significant declines in both abilities.
