The impact of downward social comparison processes on depressive symptoms in older men and women
Article Abstract:
A research was carried out among 355 community-dwelling males and females ranging in age from sixty to ninety-five years, to examine how downward comparisons mediate the relationship between adverse age-related changes and psychological well-being. The results obtained support the gerontologist's belief that downward social comparisons are an effective form of coping and adaptation in later life.
