The influence of perceptual load on age differences in selective attention
Article Abstract:
Two experiments were conducted to study the impact of perceptual load on age differences in visual selective attention. Experiment 1 supported N Lavie's hypothesis on perceptual load and served to underscore that an individual's processing capacity declines with age. Meanwhile, while the second experiment replicated the effect of perceptual load on distractibility for the older group, it also showed that the large distractor effect for the older group at low perceptual load may be decreased when perceptual grouping cues are provided.

Search, enumeration, and aging: Eye movement requirements cause age-equivalent performance in enumeration but not in search tasks
Article Abstract:
Response time (RT) and fixation frequency were measured for young and older adults in search and enumeration tasks under high- and low-attentional competition conditions. Enumeration targets with distractors produced an overall increase in RT and fixation frequency that was greater for older adults.

Aging and the Ranschburg effect: no evidence of reduced response suppression in old age
Article Abstract:
Research into the effects of aging on the efficiency of memory is presented, with focus on discovering whether older people are less good at blocking irrelevant knowledge in their minds.
