The rate of decline in function in Alzheimer's disease and other dementias

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that the rate of decline in functional impairment in people suffering from Alzheimer's disease is different from the normal aging process. Studies show the rate of functional decline accelerates with severity of the disease, while the decline rate distribution in aging without cognitive impairment is different from that in dementia. A log-normal distribution was exhibited by aged patients with any type of dementia.

Influence of age and gender on skin vessel reactivity to endothelium-dependent and endothelium-independent vasodilators tested with iontophoresis and a laser Doppler perfusion imager

Article Abstract:

Analysis of the responses of skin vessels to endothelium-dependent and endothelium-independent vasodilators, acetylcholine (ACh), and nitroprusside and isoprenaline, respectively, in 18- to 80-year-olds indicates the age-dependence of vascular responses to nitroprusside and ACh, suggesting age-induced variations in vasculature. Women, in particular, possess enhanced perfusion due to greater vasoconstrictor tone.

Effect of age and pathology on left ventricular diastolic function: the diagnostic yield of Doppler echocardiography

Article Abstract:

Experimental studies on the applicability of Doppler echocardiography in diagnosing left ventricular (LV) diastolic dysfunction by measuring the Doppler parameters in normal and affected patients indicate that age influences these parameters, especially in the case of heart patients. This implies that Doppler echocardiography cannot be used to detect LV diastolic functional damages.
